Extractions

Are you preparing for or considering a tooth extraction?

A tooth extraction (also referred to as dental extraction, exodontia, exodontics) is the removal of teeth from the dental alveolus (socket) in the alveolar bone.

In what instances will I need an extraction?

If your tooth has deteriorated beyond repair or if you have an impacted wisdom tooth that is causing you pain or damage to the adjacent tooth, you may require oral surgery to have them removed. Depending on your particular case and the severity of your problem, you will be given a local anaesthetic and could be referred for sedation if you are anxious.

When to see a dentist about extractions

You should make an appointment to see your dentist if you're experiencing severe pain, discomfort or swelling from any of your teeth.  Your dentist will check your teeth and typically take an X-ray enabling them to advise you on whether you may need an extraction. This is not always necessary and your options will be discussed with you.

As with any teeth problems, it's important to make an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible, rather than waiting for your routine check-up.

How much will it cost?

The price of your treatment will depend on the type of extraction you require and if you are on a Firs Dental Plan. Your dentist will discuss all of your options and related costs with you at your appointment.

Extraction Type Private Fees Firs Dental Plan Fees
Simple Extraction £117.00 £99.45
