Dental Bridges at Firs Premier

Do you want to replace a missing tooth or teeth? Then a dental bridge might be the solution.

Missing teeth can put a strain on the teeth on either side of a gap so it is important to speak to a dentist if you have a missing tooth or space to assess the options available to you. This will minimise any long-term impact on your dental health and the general appearance of your teeth.

What are Bridges?

A bridge is a fixed replacement for a missing tooth or teeth. There are several types of bridges available, some require no preparation and others may require a reduction in the size of the teeth either side of the space. An impression is taken and sent to the laboratory, where your bridge is custom made. This is then fitted to your teeth using strong adhesive (unlike dentures, it can not be removed). If any teeth have been reduced in size, then temporary crowns will be provided until the custom bridge is fitted.

How are missing teeth replaced with Bridges?

This depends on the number of teeth missing and on where they are in your mouth. A dental bridge is usually made by 'bridging' the gap by fitting crowns on the teeth either side of the space and then connecting these two crowns with a false tooth.

For large spaces or when adjacent teeth are unfilled or not heavily restored, you may want to consider a dental implant or implant-retained bridges. Once you have a bridge fitted, your daily oral health regime must continue, following the advice that is given to you by your dentist or hygienist.

Can a Bridge be fitted immediately after a dental extraction?

It is important to make sure that your gums are fully healed before fitting a bridge. Therefore, you may require a temporary denture before you can have your bridge fitted.
