For those that follow the progress of our Firs Dental sponsored swimmer, William Bell we are delighted to report that Will has just sent us an update from his week spent at the National Swimming Championships 2019 which took place at the Tollcross International Pool in Glasgow from 16 – 21 April 2019. The British Swimming Championships is often used as qualification trials for the season’s major championships, and attracts the best swimmers from England, Wales and Scotland.
At the Championships Willam raced in six events, set four Leicestershire Senior County Records and achieved 4 new lifetime best times.
He swam a massive 18-second Personal Best (PB) in the 1500m, making him the second fastest 17-year-old male ever on British Rankings in this event. He earned his first silver medal coming second in the fastest heat, only being beaten by a Commonwealth Champion.
Whilst all of the above is a massive achievement, we're amazed to report there's more... the highlight of the week was the 800m freestyle where he dropped his Personal Best by a massive 9-seconds earning him a silver medal position in the fastest heat and a British Age Group Record! This means that William is now the fastest ever 17-year-old male on British Rankings in this event. The record that William beat had stood since 2009.
The times that William achieved during the British Swimming Championships have earnt him consideration times for both the European Junior Championships in Russia this summer and the World Juniors to be held in Budapest.
Needless to say at Firs Dental we are immensely proud of William for these massive achievements and to be part of your journey. Having known him since an enthusiastic 12-year-old we are blown away by his talent, drive and commitment to swimming.
