Last month, Firs Dental Sponsored Swimmer, William flew to Brussels as part of an 18 strong British squad to contest the Flanders Cup meeting on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th January, one of the first international meets of the year. The squad was made up of three swimmers from the Swim England Performance Squad alongside British and Scottish Swimming squad members.
William was once again the youngest in attendance although it was his 17th birthday on the Saturday of the competition. This competition was a 'process' meet, so it was more about an improvement in technique and stroke management than times. The Head Coach reported that William raced well and stuck to his goals. He was excited to be swimming his favourite events, 400m, 800m and 1500m free and managed a lane in the B final of the 400m freestyle.
William also raced in the 800m freestyle short course for the first time at the County Champs in Hinckley, which took place on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd February. William is now in a period of hard training now leading up to the British Trials in April. William was happy to report that he raced to plan and broke the Senior Mens County Record (standing since 2008) by a massive 5 seconds and also the Senior Mens East Midlands Record (standing since 2009). The time should put him at the top of rankings for his age in this event.
