Crowns are available as an NHS treatment should you have a clinical requirement for them. However, if you are considering a crown for cosmetic purposes then find out more about having a private crown under treatment with Firs Premier by clicking here.
A crown is a type of cap that completely covers a real tooth. It's made from either metal or porcelain and metal and is cemented onto your tooth. Crowns can be fitted on a tooth that has broken, been heavily restored or root-treated. Cosmetic treatment with a private crown can be used to make a tooth look better.
If you have had root canal treatment you may need a crown to protect or 'cap' the restored tooth, which will allow you to use the tooth as if it were a real tooth. Crowns are also used to anchor a bridge or denture firmly in place in the mouth. A cosmetic crown may also be a good solution for you if you have discoloured fillings that you would like to improve the appearance of. Cosmetic crowns are available privately.
In order to fit a crown, your damaged tooth will be reduced in size so that the crown can be fixed onto it. An impression will be taken and sent to a laboratory where they will create your custom fit crown. This is then fixed onto your tooth with a strong adhesive. Whilst your custom fit crown is being made, you will be fitted with a temporary crown.
